Fairtrade
Dwyfor Sustainable Supplies is a wholesaler specialising in Fairtrade and environmentally friendly products.
What is Fairtrade?
You see the Fairtrade mark on a whole range of products from coffee and tea to flapjacks and fruit.
Fairtrade is an independent certification that guarantees producers in developing countries receive a fair price for their work, protection for the environment and a ‘Fairtrade Premium’ - extra money to pay for projects such as fresh water, schools and health care.
Why should you sell Fairtrade products?
Well firstly it makes great business sense. Sales of Fairtrade products grew by 72% last year. Over 70% of people in the UK now recognise the Fairtrade mark, and displaying the Fairtrade mark shows your company cares about quality with a conscience. Then there’s the ethics; Fairtrade guarantees no one is exploited in producing the products you sell. Even better, communities in developing countries are actively benefiting. And if you buy through Dwyfor, we also give 5% of all our profits to Hope House, so kids in Wales are benefiting too.
Does Fairtrade really make a difference?
In a word, yes! But don’t just take our word for it. This is what Mr. Kojo Aduhene-Tano said. He is a Fairtrade cocoa farmer in Ghana - “Before Fairtrade, children in our village had to walk 7km to fetch water. When they got to the water it was dirty and made us sick. Thanks to the money we have raised through Fairtrade we now have a pump in the middle of our village for fresh water, and a school for the children.”
